As long as the size is appropriate and the rigidity is sufficient, the original wheel hub will choose a mold with simple structure and moderate shape for mass production. Although there is no problem with the quality, it will not take care of the personalized needs of consumers at all. The wheels of some low-end models are even ugly to the point of "thousands of people".
Therefore, replacing the wheel hub has become another good way for the owner to show his personality after the body sticker. However, there are many parameters involved in replacing the wheel hub. Owners with this intention should do their homework first to avoid hidden dangers to safety.
1. Central aperture (CB)
Refers to the hub center hole size. Although a hub different from the original value can be installed with a shifter, we do not recommend this for safety reasons.
2. Pit circle diameter (PCD)
For example, a hub with a pitch diameter of 5x 120mm represents it with 5 positioning bolts, which form a circle with a diameter of 120mm. This value should also follow the original factory.
3. Offset (OFFSET)
Also called ET value, this value is positive, indicating that the fixed surface of the hub is outside the central plane, otherwise it is within the central plane. The offset value of a car is generally positive, and this value has a great influence on the driving stability of the car and the tracking of cornering. It is determined by the original factory and cannot be changed unless special needs.
4. Diameter and width
The diameter determines the size of the rim. Since the speedometer reading of a car is measured according to the wheel speed, if the wheel diameter is too large, the speedometer reading will be too small. An excessively large wheel diameter will also rub on the wheel arch and the fender. Therefore, it is better to upgrade the wheel hub to 1 inch larger than the original factory, no more than 2 inches, and it should be matched with thin tires to ensure that the size of the whole wheel is about the same as before the upgrade.
Width affects which tires are used after the upgrade. Too wide tires will reduce the starting speed and consume more fuel. The common values correspond to: 185mm wide tires correspond to 5 inch wide rims; 195mm corresponds to 6 inches; 205mm corresponds to 6.5 inches; 215 corresponds to 7 inches.
Tire pressure is a problem that car owners should always pay attention to, but some car owners may think that they bought tires of big brands, such as Michelin, Goodyear, Bridgestone, Dunlop and other brands, so the quality should be barring. Even if the tires are out of air, it should be no problem to drive as usual. When the tire pressure is lower than the normal value, the tire will become soft and the deformation will increase. Once the contact area between the tire and the road surface increases, the friction coefficient will increase exponentially, causing the tire temperature to rise sharply.
The main parameters that need to be paid attention to when refitting the hub are the following:
1. Wheel width: usually expressed in 5.5J, 6J, 7J, and the unit is inch. Generally, a tire with a 185 wheel width needs a rim width of 5 inches, a 195 needs 6 inches, a 205 needs 6.5 inches, and a 215 needs 7 inches.
2. Wheel diameter: There are 12, 13, 14, 15 and other specifications, the unit is inch, the vehicles currently on the market already have models with 20-inch wheels, such as Infiniti FX35, BMW X5.
3.PCD value: the diameter of the circle formed by the tire screws, in millimeters. Domestic cars are generally 100 and 114.3, while European cars are more special, including Volvo 108, BMW 120 and M.Benz 112.
4. Center hole: to ensure that the geometric center of the rim can match the geometric center of the wheel hub, so that the steering wheel will not shake when the vehicle is running at high speed.
5. Geometric centerline: The important reference data of the rim, including the calculation of the Offset value and the net value of the distance from the leaf plate, must refer to the value of this item.
6.Offset: The distance between the fixed surface of the wheel hub and the geometric centerline. Its important function is to ensure that the tire will not wear to the car body.
7. Wheel rim wall: used to support the tire tread and absorb the impact from the road surface.
8. Wheel rim shoulder: It is closely integrated with the tire lip to provide good air tightness to establish tire pressure.
9. Wheel rim disc surface: The claws of some wheels will protrude beyond the vertical line of the disc surface, so that the wheel hub cannot be protected by the tire, and a little carelessness when parking may damage the coating of the wheel hub surface.
10.X distance: Data that must be considered when modifying multi-piston calipers, otherwise there may be friction between the hub disc surface and the brake calipers.
