waterborne acrylic resin? Take a look
aqueous acrylic resins include acrylic resin emulsions, aqueous acrylic resin dispersions (also known as water-dilutable acrylic), and aqueous acrylic resin solutions. Compared with traditional solvent-based coatings, water-based coatings have the advantages of low price, safe use, saving resources and energy, reducing environmental pollution and pollution, and have become the main direction of the current development of the coating industry. Waterborne acrylic resin coatings are the fastest growing and most varieties of non-polluting coatings in waterborne coatings.

1) Styrene
polyacrylate emulsions is that it can provide a higher glass transition temperature (Tg), thereby increasing the hardness of the film; another reason is cost. Styrene is used in the packaging industry and is one of the most important and mature downstream products in the petroleum industry. The price is low but it is greatly affected by the macro economy. However, the introduction of styrene, especially when its content is more than 15% of the total monomer amount, also brings about many negative effects on the film-forming properties of the water-based paint.
2) acrylate monomer
there are many kinds of acrylate monomers, performance and price vary greatly. The most commonly used in China is butyl acrylate, which has the lowest cost. It is the monomer used by most emulsion manufacturers to make cheap wall paint emulsion with styrene. Its function is to provide water-based paint film flexibility. Since the main chain of the acrylate polymer does not contain groups other than the ester group, the flexibility of the main chain and the ester group side chain is good, so that the water-based paint film lacks hardness. Although this kind of polyacrylate emulsion is the choice of building interior and exterior wall coatings, but as a wood paint with high hardness and toughness requirements, the performance is not enough.
3) Methacrylate monomer
methacrylate monomer, than the acrylate monomer in the performance of a step. Due to the addition of methyl groups in the main chain of methacrylate polymer, the mobility of the main chain is limited, the rigidity of the main chain is enhanced, and the side chain of ester group provides flexibility, so that methacrylate monomer has the best balance of hardness and toughness. For example, polymethyl methacrylate (methyl methyl ester) is commonly known as organic glass. Methacrylate monomer, because it does not contain benzene ring, makes it more resistant to ultraviolet corrosion and durability than styrene monomer, and solvent resistance than styrene has obvious advantages.
